I was assigned to RD #1 today. Here’s an aerial view. It’s a relatively new route for me, and I still get kind of confused in the first half.
I didn’t feel too well today. In fact, I felt bad enough that I bought a bottle of Pepto Bismol at 7-11 on the way to the PO this morning and worked my way almost all the way through it during the course of the day. Considering how I felt, I wasn’t too surprised to see a note from the supervisor at the mail case when I got back. Apparently I misdelivered some woman’s mail (actually, what I did was deliver someone else’s mail to her box). I’m not sure how it happened since she has her last name written on the inside of her mailbox lid. Oops.
She called the post office saying that she brought the mail over to her neighbor’s box, correcting my mistake, but now wanted to know where her mail was. The supervisor said he would call her back, but I told him I would do it. When I called, I got an answering machine so I left a message apologizing for the misdelivery and telling her that she didn’t have any mail today, which is probably why I screwed up. That, plus I’m not all that bright to begin with.
So when’s the last time you got a personal call from your mail carrier regarding your service?

Uh, never.
Though, in all fairness, that’s also the last time I called the post office when I got my neighbor’s mail.

Mail carrier? Oh, you mean that guy in the white box that comes around? I didn’t know he was human. 😉

Some of us are human. Then there are the others. Watch out.

Again I ask you: who are these people who call the Post Office to complain?!?! My theory with the PO is to simply be grateful that they (mostly) take the stuff I put out there with the little red flag and that they (generally) will put important things back into the box (mixed in with all kinds of crud I’d rather not get, but close enough). In other words, keep your head down. I figure mail carriers have A List. And I know I don’t want to be on it.

Mail carriers know our phone numbers? And calling the post office to complain is right up there with calling the President or something…who does this?! I would never expect to reach an actual person or get results, let alone a call back!

We have your phone number if you give it to us with your message, which the woman did.
