Here’s a ridiculous article from the New York Times about chronic tardiness. It starts off by saying,

Contrary to suspicions, most chronically tardy people are not aiming to annoy those around them, said Diana DeLonzor, author of “Never Be Late Again” (Post Madison Publishing) and a former late person.

People should not take a co-worker’s lateness personally, she said: “It’s not usually about control. It’s not that they don’t value your time. It’s not that they like the attention when they walk into the room.”

…and then goes on in Q&A format to explain how chronically late people annoy those around them, are trying to be in control, and don’t value others’ time.

Ultimately the article offers some suggestions for the timeliness challenged, such as “relearn how to tell time” and a few other things that most of the adults around them do all the time.

No word on when the author will write a book for chronically contradictory journalists.

Would someone please tell me when the iPhone will be released ? Please ?

We have an older neighbor, a Hungarian expat named Jeno. I’m not sure how old he is but his snowblower is even older, so I started snowblowing his sidewalk this past winter. He was very appreciative and has now thanked me and/or my wife perhaps fifty times. Think I’m exaggerating?

On Memorial Day weekend he called while I was out for a walk. My wife answered.

“Oh, Geno! So you’re back!”

“No,” he said.

He called just to say hi.

From Hungary.

Courtesy of Randy comes this fabulous photo essay full of food from far away.

Still hungry? It’s because you looked at those pictures. It says so here.

Need to spice up your food? Peppers work well, but did you know why? Now you do.

However, [peppers] share that trait with a number of other plants. In these other species, it’s pretty plain why they taste so bad: it stops animals from eating them. Some even go to the lengths of poisoning their devourers…Birds are completely insensate to chilli peppers: they can eat as many as they want with no ill-effects whatsoever2. What’s more, it might even have a beneficial effect for them, killing off harmful bacteria in their gut.

So how does this benefit the chilli plant? Well, if your fruit gets eaten and then excreted by a bird, the seeds get spread further…
