I just tallied up the consecutive delivery days I’ve worked. Twenty-two as of today, exceeding the last stretch by one. Tomorrow makes 23. I believe Ann has also worked all of those days too (maybe more).
Our missing carrier (Bill) who we thought we’d seen the last of, showed up today and actually delivered his route. Kind of a shock. Apparently Ann (who is Bill’s sub and has been doing R4 every day for him) was in her car on the way to work when she got a call from one of the regulars who had noticed Bill at his case. She turned around, went home and got an extra hour of sleep before coming in to do her route, #9 (a tiny, beautiful route which I love). She was done by 11am.
I got slammed on R5 and didn’t leave for the day until 5pm… that hasn’t happened since February.
Now that Bill’s back, I may actually have a couple of days off this week. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Doug, the carrier I sub for, has an expensive hobby. It involves jumping. From one of these.
He has jumped in almost all 50 states, though I’m not sure which four or five he’s missed.
I wish I could go with him (and watch him jump from the safety of terra firma), but I have to stay behind and make some money doing his route. This will facilitate my own (jump-free) journey.
