It means many, many people around the web will still have way too much time on their hands in 2007.

Yeah. Why the heck isn’t the Storm on that map?

Have you read the two articles that lead to the map, or are you too busy?

I am a pretty busy guy Terence. I’ll see if I can get to it.
I all seriousness, I did skim those articles. While well written and researched, I think it’s hard to do anything truly novel regarding the web (note that I didn’t say “impossible”) at this point. Most of the stuff I read about the web 1. says the same thing as everything else, and 2. is too self absorbed, like contemplating one’s navel. This one seemed the same.
The only thing distinctive among the iA’s predictions is the idea of Digital ID which, again, is hardly original.
The map itself is too overloaded to serve as a decent summary, despite the obvious effort that went into creating it. One really does need to read the articles closely to understand the map. I’d love it if the map spoke by itself, at least as an abstract, but that really isn’t the case.
My earlier snarky comment about being too busy is part of my point. As the author hints, we are in the middle of the infolution already. What this means for a novice like me (as well as most of the rest of the users of the everyday web), is that all the web introspection going on does little if it fails to tell us something about how the web works for us.
A map or other graphical representation of trends is a great idea, but if it doesn’t immediately give us end users something to latch onto, it is less than helpful and honestly not a good investment of precious time.

Well, it’s not even accurate, for one thing. Daring Fireball — an Apple-centric blog of the first stripe — is shown way the heck north of Apple. Maybe I don’t get it after all. If so, I feel better. I’d hate to think that I actually spend enough time on this stuff to, you know, understand it.
