Windows live writer is beta freeware from microsoft that really works.
That sentence is unbelievable, but nevertheless true. I like this software a lot. I downloaded it a few weeks ago and it quickly became my standard for post writing, displacing the WordPress WYSIWYG (which is woefully inadequate) and the Firefox Performancing extension (which works well but absolutely sucks wind when it comes to image uploading and formatting). Anything I would write about Live Writer in the way of review is nicely said in this review at Information Week by Sergar Yegulalp.
I don’t even mind that WLW is a stand alone program since I take my notebook pretty much everywhere I go (except out on the route with me). It would be great to have Live Writer’s excellent functionality in a web based app, but I’ll bet some smart person is working on that.
The only thing it doesn’t (seem to) have is a “blog this with Live Writer” thingy, though maybe it’s in there somewhere and I missed it. see update post.
This is one microsoft program I can heartily recommend. Get it here.
*Apologies to mis_nomer for playing fast and loose with the title from her excellent series.

I’ve yet to find a decent RTF editor for WordPress, so I’ll definitely give this one a shot. Thanks for posting this.

Cool, thanks for the info. I’ll check it out. I, too, haven’t found any good alternatives to the standard anemic WordPress editor (and the pitiful WYSIWYG plugins) yet, but this might work.

[...] This is a test post using Windows Live Writer, which Jim just pointed out to me this afternoon, and which might be my new favorite editor besides the standard anemic WordPress editor (and the pitiful WYSIWYG plugins). It even has Blog This! capability in Firefox. [...]

Any feed syndication issues after using Live Writer? For some reason, Google and Technorati aren’t indexing my posts right now, although My Yahoo and Bloglines are. I’m just curious if Live Writer is sticking in some code to discourage Google indexing, or if it’s just a fluke thing.

Merry Christmas Rick!
Couldn’t tell you about that, although Bloglines is functioning normally for me wrt to my own post. I don’t use Google and Technorati… well, I only use them because they’re pretty much the only game in town. If a similar service existed I would switch over in a heartbeat. T’rati routinely fails to index my stuff no matter how I put it up.
Hope you and yours are blessed today and always!
